A romantic beach engagement at San Diego’s famous Sunset Cliffs took an unexpected and chaotic turn in a video online.
In a viral tiktok clipthe boyfriend, Gabriel Meese, 27, is seen trying to secretly get the engagement ring from a bag—but his girlfriend, Cassidy Dubois, 25, keeps moving it, causing Gabe to frantically try to stop her. The couple spoke to Newsweek about the video, which has received 1.2 million likes, and how the proposal managed to go perfectly anyway.
“My boyfriend on his last nerve trying to propose to me, but I keep moving the ring not knowing it was in the bag,” Dubois captioned the video. “Him trying to tell me why the bag needs to stay right here.”

Meese, who lives in Arizona and traveled with Dubois to San Diego for the proposal, told Newsweek he was “super stressed out all day.” When Dubois began moving the bag, his mind was racing.
“When she was moving the bag, I was like, ‘Oh my God, what do I do? What do I say I need it for?'” he said.
A Priceless Reaction
From Dubois’ perspective, the situation was nothing more than a moment of confusion.
“I was completely oblivious to what was happening,” she said. She was simply trying to make sure the bag wasn’t in the video she was taking of the sunset. “I had no idea it was in there; I was just happy to be in our favorite spot, I wasn’t thinking.”
Her confusion was evident in the clip: “You can tell by the look on my face. I was like ‘What is going on?'” she said. “I thought he was getting ready for our video.”
When he finally got the ring out and the moment dawned on her, Dubois was so overcome with emotion she couldn’t get words out. She was also speechless when he showed her the ring, which was the exact one she’d always wanted.
Overwhelmed, she said all she could do was give him a hug and a kiss and ask, “You really want to marry me?”
Meese was equally emotional.
“Honestly I was just so nervous that I blacked out after she said yes,” he said. “I was so happy and overwhelmed with emotion.”
A Love Story for the Books
This chaotic proposal is just another chapter in a long-standing love story between Meese and Dubois. The couple met at 17 and haven’t left each other’s side since.
“We have grown up together, gone through the struggles of life together and to finally marry this man is everything I’ve ever wanted,” Dubois said.
The newly engaged couple hope to tie the knot in the spring of 2027. Until then, they plan to “just enjoy being engaged to one another.” Their proposal, with its air of joyful confusion, seems to be a beautiful and unique beginning to a shared future.
