Former Austrian goalkeeper Alex Manninger has died at the age of 48 in a tragic road accident near Salzburg, Austria.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A sudden disappearance which upset several major European clubs, notably Liverpool FC, Arsenal FC and Juventus FC, where he had played during his career.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"un-accident-dramatique-pres-de-salzbourg\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">A dramatic accident near Salzburg<\/h2>\n<p>According to the German and Austrian press, the tragedy occurred at an unsecured level crossing. The minibus driven by Alex Manninger was violently hit by a regional train.<\/p>\n<p>The violence of the shock was extreme:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the vehicle was dragged several meters<\/li>\n<li>the driver was stuck in the wreck<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Unfortunately, emergency services were unable to do anything to save the former Austrian international.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"une-carriere-marquee-par-les-grands-clubs-europeens\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">A career marked by major European clubs<\/h2>\n<p>During his career, Alex Manninger played 33 matches with the Austrian selection and played for several prestigious clubs.<\/p>\n<p>He notably distinguished himself:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>at Arsenal FC between 1998 and 2002<\/li>\n<li>at Juventus FC between 2008 and 2012<\/li>\n<li>then to Liverpool FC during the 2016-2017 season<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An experienced goalkeeper, he made an impression with his professionalism and longevity at the highest level before retiring in 2017.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"les-hommages-affluent\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tributes pour in<\/h2>\n<p>Very quickly, reactions multiplied in the world of football.
