Providing examples of the sort of sides that could be interested in pursuing Alvarez, Simeone listed Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.<\/p>\n
The Argentina international joined Atletico in the summer of 2024 in a \u20ac95million (\u00a383m; $110m) move from Manchester City. He is contracted to the Spanish club until 2030, and his deal contains a \u20ac500m (\u00a3436m; $577m) release clause.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Tuesday ahead of Atletico\u2019s Champions League semi-final first leg against Arsenal, Simeone was asked for his reaction to reports in England crediting the Premier League club with interest in the 26-year-old, and what he thought the forward\u2019s summer plans are.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not in Julian Alvarez\u2019s head and I understand that it\u2019s normal that an extraordinary player like Julian Alvarez is wanted by Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona,\u201d Simeone replied. \u201cIt\u2019s normal, because he\u2019s very good.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Athletic <\/em>reported in March Alvarez is the name at the top of Barcelona sporting director Deco\u2019s transfer wish list this summer, with striker Robert Lewandowski\u2019s contract at Camp Nou expiring this summer and his future uncertain.<\/p>\n When asked about Alvarez\u2019s links to Arsenal, manager Mikel Arteta declined to comment stating that: \u201cI don\u2019t talk about any other players.\u201d<\/p>\n Alvarez was asked by reporters about his links to Barcelona after his side\u2019s Champions League win over Tottenham Hotspur in March.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve nothing to say,\u201d he replied. \u201cThere\u2019s always a lot of talk \u2014 everyone has an opinion, things can snowball. I\u2019m happy at Atletico; we\u2019re fighting for things, going well in the Champions League and into the Copa del Rey final.\u201d<\/p>\n Pressed to confirm he would still be at Atletico next season, Alvarez responded: \u201cI couldn\u2019t tell you; maybe yes, maybe no, you never know.
