Slegers has spoken out about the controversial incident involving McCabe and Thompson during a midweek European match. The incident, in which the Irish defender pulled the young American winger’s hair, sparked outrage from Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor, who caused a stir by pulling out her mobile phone in a post-match interview to show what she considered to be an unsigned red card.
During a press conference on Friday, Slegers confirmed that he had held private discussions with his defender to clarify the situation. “Yes, I saw that, I spoke to Katie today too, she’s really sorry about what happened and it’s unfortunate that it happened,” the coach explained.
