Opposed to Bournemouth during a match on the 32nd day of the Premier League, Arsenal fell at home (1-2). This setback helps revive Manchester City in the title race.
A failure that comes at a bad time. Arsenal suffered a very rare home defeat in the Premier League on Saturday against Bournemouth (2-1), enough to revive the title hope for their runner-up Manchester City with six days remaining.
The Londoners certainly remain nine points ahead of Manchester City, but Pep Guardiola’s team has played two games less and welcomes the Gunners next weekend at the Etihad.
A “final” against Manchester City on April 19?
Concretely, the Citizens (2nd with 61 points) can come back to the level of the Gunners (70 pts) if they beat Chelsea on Sunday, Crystal Palace in their late match (date still undetermined), and Arsenal in what looks more and more like a “final” for the coronation.
In the meantime, the fourth defeat suffered this season in the Premier League – only the second at home after that against Manchester United in January – will resurface the recurring debate in England on Arsenal’s ability to resist pressure in the final sprint.
Goals from Frenchman Junior Kroupi (17th), his tenth in the Premier League, and Alex Scott (74th), brought down the Gunners and their center forward Viktor Gyökeres, who equalized from the penalty spot in the meantime (35th). Next Wednesday, the Gunners will try to qualify for the semi-finals of the Champions League, six days after their victory at Sporting (0-1).
