Beyond the general lack of goals, the Sporting captain singled out the way Arsenal managed time during set-pieces. The Portuguese team believed they were more creative when the game could flow freely, but these sequences were rare.
Asked about the lack of suspense compared to the other quarter-finals, the captain added: “If I were a neutral spectator, a 0-0, or even the 1-0 of the first leg, that is not the image that Sporting wants to send back. We want to score, create chances, and we didn’t do that today. There were too many stoppages in play, especially on set pieces, which fragmented the match. When we finally found our rhythm, we created several chances, especially in the first half. But overall we didn’t create enough to win. »
