Ahead of next season, PSG sporting director Luis Campos met with representatives of Gabriel Martinelli from Arsenal and Yan Diomandé from Leipzig. Two wingers, which raises questions about Parisian plans.
If PSG is in the phase of the season where it is a question of going for trophies as its coach Luis Enrique regularly says, the club is obviously thinking about the future, with a summer transfer window which will begin in a big month. Obviously, next season is already being prepared and, if he is mainly focusing on the current one, the Parisian coach has validated profiles with sports director Luis Campos, as since the start of their collaboration in July 2023.
Martinelli and Diomandé met by PSG
As L’Equipe explains in today’s edition, Luis Campos meets the agents of numerous players in order to gather information and he notably came across those of two players whose name has leaked: that of Gabriel Martinelli, a 24-year-old Brazilian international playing for Arsenal, and that of Yan Diomandé, an Ivorian revelation aged barely 19 and playing for RB Leipzig. Two rated players, who play mainly on the side.
While the future of Ousmane Dembélé remains unclear due to the long discussions on his possible contract extension, with negotiations which were postponed until the end of the season, PSG is therefore looking at the case of two wingers, and not a central player as the Ballon d’Or has become. Would Paris rather fear finding itself in an impossible situation with Barcola, clearly a winger, rather than with Dembélé? The club assured the sports newspaper that it was confident in the extension of its No. 10, when that of the winger, on the other hand, seems very stuck.
Two wingers with two very different profiles
It is also interesting to note that the two wingers we met have real differences. Martinelli plays exclusively on the left, is almost 25 years old, which is old for PSG in terms of recruitment, and has a relatively favorable contractual solution since linked to Arsenal until 2027 only, plus an optional year. On the contrary, Diomandé is very young, 20 years old in November, has a very long contract until 2030 with Leipzig who also want to extend it further and he can play on both wings, a point very appreciated at PSG where versatility is king.
At this time, PSG’s plans are logically quite vague and they will also depend on departures. A movement outwards will lead to an arrival and the biggest candidate for departure in the offensive sector is Ibrahim Mbaye, whose return from the CAN is very complicated and who saw his playing time dwindle in the second part of the season. It will also be necessary to follow the desires of Gonçalo Ramos and Lee Kang-in, regulars on the bench, but PSG has in any case clearly anticipated several scenarios.
