Halland poses shirtless after City’s victory over Arsenal: provocation is his thing!

He had scored the goal that could change the course of a title. He then took off his jersey — and caused a digital storm.

Sunday evening at the Etihad, Erling Haaland planted the decisive goal in the 65th minute, allowing Manchester City to win 2-1 against Arsenal and reduce the gap in the standings to just three points, with a game in hand. A devastating result for the Gunners, who are seeking their first title since 2004 and suffered their second consecutive defeat.

But it was after the final whistle that the real show began. On his X account, the Norwegian posted a shirtless photo, looking at the camera, in what looks like a celebration as much as a challenge to the entire Premier League. The reaction was not long in coming: the Spanish daily Mark titled without complex — “¿la mejor foto de fútbol del siglo XXI? » — propelling the photo into a global trend in a few hours.

Hyperbole assumed? Absolutely. There is no official list designating THE best football photo of the century – the debate belongs more to the domain of viral buzz than the history of sport. But this is precisely where the power of the Haaland phenomenon lies: it transforms every gesture into a symbol, every victory into an instant iconic image.

In such a tight season, with City in ambush and Arsenal faltering, this bare chest captured much more than a celebration. It crystallized a psychological shift, a balance of power in the process of being reversed, six days before the title.

Photo of the century? Maybe not. Photo of the moment? Indisputably.

Man City – Arsenal: the Citizens three points behind the Gunners with a match in hand. The title race is relaunched.
