According to Premier League legend Alan Shearer, the real blow for Arsenal came the week before. The Gunners then suffered a 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth, a performance which, according to the former striker, lacked the intensity required to aim for the title, unlike their performance in Manchester.
Discussing the Gunners’ recent form, the former Newcastle striker said: “Where was this team against Bournemouth? Where was this energy? This performance? Where was this forward-looking Arsenal? I think it’s last weekend’s result that could cost them the title, rather than this weekend’s; they were simply flat. On the other hand, I thought they were really good today: a high-level match, many chances created and an ability to stand up to City. It was brilliant. Certainly, Arsenal had its moments, notably with Kai Havertz at the very end of the match, but now, we must count on Manchester City. »
