Slowly, but surely, Arthur Fils is finding a ranking more in line with his level of play. The Frenchman has just been titled in the ATP 500 in Barcelona, having completed a dream week with a more than convincing victory against Andrey Rublev (6-2, 7-6). A success thanks to which Fils climbs back into the world top 25, just ahead of Arthur Rinderknech, making him the new French number 1. A status that he had already experienced in the past.
Things should logically improve in the coming weeks for Arthur Fils, whose objective will be to arrive at Roland-Garros as top seed, with the highest possible ranking as a bonus, while at it. The Essonnian has only 110 points to defend as the Masters 1000 in Madrid looms, where a good run could help him continue his meteoric rise. “Honestly, he impressed me, he’s going to be top 10 very quickly,” predicts Alex Corretja in The Team this Monday. A little less than 2,000 points still separate him from world 10th Daniil Medvedev, all the same.
Sinner and Alcaraz alone in the world
At the top of the pyramid, a chasm separates the two mutants from the rest of the board.
