Change of lead on the Premier League throne. Manchester City took first place in the English championship from Arsenal, who had held it relentlessly since the beginning of October, by winning on the Burnley pitch (1-0) on Wednesday April 22.
The only goal of the match was scored by the inevitable Erling Haaland, best director of the championship (24), after five minutes of play. The Cityzens returned to the top of the ranking, which they had only occupied once this season, on the evening of the first day.
After 33 games played, Pep Guardiola’s team has a perfectly identical record to Arsenal (70 points and +37 in goal difference), but it doubles its rival in the standings thanks to a higher total of goals scored (66 against 63). Arsenal will move back in front in the event of a win or draw against Newcastle on Saturday April 25, but Manchester City still has a wildcard, with a late match to play, scheduled for May 22 against Crystal Palace. Loser of the evening, Burnley is relegated to the Championship.
