Leah Williamson stays! The captain of the Lionesses is preparing to extend her contract with Arsenal, which was coming to an end, and thus continue her twenty-year adventure with the Gunners

Arsenal fans can rejoice: the club has made notable progress in reducing the list of players at the end of their contracts. The extensions of Little, Blackstenius and Catley, signed over the past month, were immediately followed by the announcement regarding Williamson.

However, several files remain open. Last week, the club formalized the departure, at the end of her contract, of goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger, who was kept away from the field for a large part of the season due to a ruptured cruciate ligament. No announcement has yet been made regarding Katie McCabe, Beth Mead, Victoria Pelova, Caitlin Foord or Laia Codina, all free to sign up this summer.

For several weeks there have been numerous reports indicating that McCabe is preparing to leave, despite being a key player both this season and for most of her decade in north London. The latest information regarding his future was released on Monday by The Athleticwho suggests she and Mead could both join Women’s Super League leaders Manchester City.

According to Arseblogthe Gunners would however not want to lose Mead and Foord simultaneously, for fear of weakening their options on the wings, even if no progress is reported regarding the Australian player. Finally, Pelova and Codina, little used this season, could leave to seek playing time elsewhere.
