Manchester City won the English League Cup by beating Arsenal 2-0 in the final at Wembley. This is the 9th time in their history that the Citizens have won this trophy.
The unexpected hero of the game was the young Englishman Nico O’Reilly. The day after his 21st birthday, the left-back scored a decisive double (60th/64th) against the Gunners who were not up to the task.
Mikel Arteta’s choice to start Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal was not judicious: the Spaniard made a big mistake at 1-0 by releasing a harmless ball. Opposite, Pep Guardiola also lined up his second goalkeeper, James Trafford. But this was not seriously requested.
With now 9 victories in the League Cup, Manchester City is only one length behind the record held by Liverpool.
