Why does Kai Havertz like donkeys so much? The Arsenal star opens up about the strong bond that unites him with this “wonderful animal”

His attachment to this animal even earned him the nickname “The Donkey” among some of his teammates. He now returns to the German national team for the first time since November 2024, after overcoming a series of injuries that kept the Arsenal striker sidelined for much of the current season.

Returning to full fitness ahead of the World Cup, he is eager to put his injury problems behind him, saying: “For me personally it was of course a very difficult period which I now have behind me. It wasn’t easy. Nevertheless, I am of course very happy to be back here, to be with the team. I naturally missed the guys, as did spending time here, playing for the national team again and singing the anthem. That’s why it’s of course very special for me to be back after all this time. »

Despite his absence from the team, he maintained constant communication with the technical staff. He now plans to use his international experience to guide a team that includes several newcomers as it prepares for the World Cup.

“I haven’t had any discussions about my role yet. I was in regular contact with Julian. The exchange has always been there, always present,” Havertz said. “I am very grateful to him for reaching out to me as well. But I wasn’t there for a year, and I hope to lead the team by example, to help the boys on the pitch. I feel very comfortable in all offensive positions. I am a versatile player, I have played in many positions in recent years. Everyone knows I’m not a loud player who gives speeches in the locker room. But I have experience at international level and I challenge myself to lead the team from the field during this World Cup. »
