Optician Krys launches his model to film his sporting exploits

Film your sporting exploits? No discipline escapes this trend which allows you to keep track of your outings and share your performances in images. With his glasses Smart Signaturethe optician Krys offers skiers, runners, cyclists and other hikers or mountaineers, a real pair of sports glasses, but also a pair of connected glasses. Goal: film, listen and communicate! 20 Minutes was able to try them.

Very intuitive use

Once removed from their storage case and unfolded, you can immediately see the small central camera and the side control buttons. The glasses Smart Signature launched by Krys first surprise with their lightness: only 40 grams. On the nose, they stand out for their perfect support, their branches hugging the skull just enough. On each side, a button with a metallic finish. It is with these two appendages that we will gain control – or rather our finger – of the connected functions of the binoculars!

Depending on your needs, you will activate the right button to take a photo or start shooting a video. The left to use the functions talkie-walkie glasses (we’ll come back to this). On the front, a touch zone will be used to control your music (Play/Pause/Answer/Hang up/Refuse a call). At first we are afraid of getting lost, it’s true. But the use of Smart Signaturee which we tested while cycling, turns out to be very intuitive after 15 minutes of testing.

More than 4 hours of video

These splash-proof glasses (standard: IP54) are equipped with a 1080p camera on the front to capture 16 megapixel photos and shoot Full HD videos. These images are stored internally, in the 32 GB memory (for approximately 4 hours 20 minutes of video). THE Smart Signature being Wifi, we will later repatriate our photos and clips in a flash, from a dedicated application. And this one (in French) has rather good ergonomics. In order not to have to play the apprentice director and worry about your filming while you surpass yourself physically in the Col du Galibier, you can calibrate in advance in the application the recording duration of your clips: 1, 5, 10, 20 or 30 minutes. This avoids having to worry about when to stop shooting.

Likewise, it is possible beforehand to choose to capture your images in Portrait or Landscape mode. For the latter, a function called Perspective sportive automatically adapts the relationship between the ground and the sky in the image. Just to properly center the rendering in the center of the screen…

And this mode, which could be described as POV (Point of View), is quite effective. An AI-based function makes it possible to automate the editing of certain sequences according to their relevance. Finally a mode talkie-walkie (which we were unable to test due to lack of a partner equipped with a second pair of glasses!) allows you to communicate with one or more people wearing Krys’ glasses. Equipped with five microphones and four speakers, they should be practical when doing sports with others, such as for a bike ride.

Adapted corrections

Very easy to use, offering images of very honorable quality, these connected glasses have a battery life of one hour when filming video and up to 8 hours when listening to music via Bluetooth. Not sure that it is this second function that athletes will appreciate the most: the quality of the sound broadcast in the two branches of the Smart Signature remains perfectible, lacking bass, but also power. Sold from 299 euros with polarizing greens, the Krys glasses can also be equipped with a suitable correction.

Our “Connected Objects” file

Without doubt the geeks will they have recognized with the Smart Signature a variation of the named glasses Ranger from the sports tech brand outdoor BleeqUp (founded in 2022). This model was already present on the international market, but its manufacturer had recently announced that it wanted to become better known in France.

The fact remains that faced with Ray-Ban Meta connected glasses which regularly create buzz, or those from the Oakley brand, the small world of tech as well as that of opticians wants to believe in the future of this type of binoculars. A few days ago, the Afflelou group launched the Magic Connect, its own 2.0 glasses (without camera). Enough to prepare the ground for future Google AI glasses which should be launched by the end of the year. While waiting for Apple’s…
