The Gunners fell this Saturday in the quarter-final on the lawn of Southampton, residents of the Championship.
A second chance at the title is gone for the Gunners. Southampton, a second division club, created a surprise in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Saturday by eliminating Premier League leader Arsenal (2-1), who saw another possible trophy elude them.
In his St Mary’s Stadium, the current seventh in the Championship opened the scoring through Ross Stewart (35th), he was caught by a goal from incoming Viktor Gyökeres (68th) before winning thanks to Shea Charles (85th). Arsenal suffered a second disappointment after the League Cup final lost against Manchester City, their pursuer in the Premier League, before the international break in March.

The dream of a quadruple has vanished in the space of two weeks for Mikel Arteta’s team, who will have to remobilize to secure the league title and negotiate well their upcoming Champions League quarter-final against Sporting.
In the south of England, the Gunners’ defense was shaken on numerous occasions, notably by striker Leo Scienza, caught at the end of the race by Cristhian Mosquera (18th) and author of a shot on the crossbar of Kepa Arrizabalaga (61st). She lost for the first time after a counter-attack when Ross Stewart perfectly exploited, after a sequence of chest control and shooting, a poorly judged cross by Ben White (35th, 1-0).
