FA Cup: Arsenal falls by the wayside, Chelsea and City will face each other in the semi-finals

Big surprise in the FA Cup! Arsenal were surprised at home by Brighton in the quarter-finals. Chelsea and Manchester City came through and are aiming for the double.

Freshly qualified for the semi-finals of the Champions League, Arsenal paid off for their efforts. During the reception of Brighton, the Gunners sank. Tasteless, they suffered from start to finish, finally giving in twice in the second half. Madison Haley from a tight angle then Caitlin Hayes from a corner stunned the host club (0–2).

The Seagulls will meet Liverpool in an unprecedented semi-final. The Reds snatched their qualification from Charlton, resident of D2, thanks to its young heroine Zara Shaw, opportunist in an endless mess (0–1, ap). A lot at stake in this half to come. Liverpool have not played in an FA Cup final for exactly 30 years, while Brighton could experience the first in their history.

The other semi-final will feature a more anticipated duel between the top two in the championship. Facing Birmingham, another resident of D2, Manchester City won by the narrowest of margins thanks to a quick goal from Bunny Shaw. Embarrassed by enterprising Spurs, Chelsea still escaped thanks to a late Veerle Buurman goal (2–1).

While Brighton and Liverpool are in search of their first national trophy, Chelsea and City are in the race for the double. The semi-finals will take place on the weekend of May 9.
