Raheem Sterling looks ‘increasingly fit’ and ‘enthusiastic’ as Robin van Persie sees winger take on key role at Feyenoord

Van Persie also admitted Sterling was unhappy at being substituted in the NAC game, but believes it speaks to the winger’s passion for the game.

He added: “He was disappointed in the NAC game to be substituted after an hour. I find it quite nice, in a way, it’s the enthusiasm that inhabits him and makes him want to play. In the previous match, he played 80 minutes. He is no longer limited in playing time.”

Sterling admitted as much himself, adding: “I felt fit enough to continue, but it’s the coach’s choice. All the players want to stay on the pitch. We want to stay on the ground. We understand that this is not yet possible. This is another step in the right direction. »

He added: “We would have liked to have won. We have mixed feelings about the performance. It was very inconsistent, but at times also very good. I want to get back to my previous level. It was a good attack on our part. We must continue to work on this and more will follow. »
