Raya, meanwhile, paid tribute to coach Gabriel Heinze, the former Manchester United defender, for instilling a “fighting spirit” into the defense.
He added: “He’s a man, he’s a coach, who wants us to fight – with a lot of intensity. To win matches, you have to defend very well, especially in this championship. It is the most difficult championship in the world.
You have to be very, very, very strong to be able to win matches. Generally, matches are won by one goal. So it’s really, really important to preserve this asset, for us, for everyone. Not just the back line, but every player. So he deserves a lot of credit too. »
Jamie Carragher praised Raya earlier this season, saying: “Look, I think he’s a brilliant goalkeeper. This is one of the best deals Arsenal have made. He’s much better than Aaron Ramsdale. For me, David Raya is, along with Alisson, the best goalkeeper in the Premier League. He’s certainly one of the best goalkeepers in the world and that’s why he keeps so many clean sheets. »
