Thursday, Alex Aranburu (Cofidis) won the 4th stage of the Tour of the Basque Country 2026 around Galdakao. This is the first race not won by a Frenchman on Itzulia this week, after the victories of Paul Seixas, Monday and Tuesday, and Axel Laurance on Wednesday.
Aranburu raised his arms at the end of a 167.2km long stage with 3119 meters of elevation gain and seven listed climbs. Suitable for punchers, this loop around Galdakao was lively up front, with several escapees, including Tobias Halland Johannessen (Uno-X) and Alex Aranburu (Cofidis), in the Regina wall (3.3 km at 8%), who managed to go to the end. The Spaniard won at the finish.
Paul Seixas impressive downhill
5 kilometers from the finish, Paul Seixas (Decathlon CMA-CGM) took all the risks on the descent and almost caught up with the leaders. 8th, he takes seconds ahead at the top of the ranking over the favorites and makes an impression. After the race, he confided that he was not afraid because he knew the curves of the descent well, because he had studied it well with his team. Under pressure from his main competitors, he responded in the best possible way.
