Before the game, Colchoneros supporters deployed an incredible arsenal of smoke bombs to welcome Diego Simeone’s men.
From an aerial view, the images are impressive with this bus moving through the smoke. For this quarter-final return, Diego Simeone lined up an unsurprising eleven including Antoine Griezmann, Julian Alvarez and Ademola Lookman. The Colchoneros were, however, quickly surprised by a goal from Lamine Yamal (4th) following a defensive error.

Controversies before the quarter return
The first leg was marked by an arbitration controversy. A few hours before kick-off, UEFA rejected the complaint filed by FC Barcelona, deeming it “inadmissible”. The Catalan club complained about a hand not being whistled in the penalty area. In the second half (55th), Marc Pubill grabbed the ball in his hand following a misunderstanding with his goalkeeper. Barça had previously been reduced to 10 men in the 44th minute, after the expulsion of Pau Cubarsi.
Before the quarter-final return, FC Barcelona also pointed out the state of the Metropolitano pitch. As RMC Sport observed on Monday, the pitch actually seemed dry, and even damaged in places near the corner posts in particular. “I find it stupid to talk about the grass pitch before this important match. UEFA said it was good and I have nothing else to add,” said Enrique Cerezo, the president of Atlético de Madrid.
