Another extension! Stina Blackstenius becomes the latest Arsenal player to sign a new contract, as the London club continue their extension campaign to resolve the long list of expiring contracts

In the past, Blackstenius might have been tempted by a new challenge. Indeed, she has often struggled to establish herself in Arsenal’s starting lineup, competing with Alessia Russo, the Gunners’ starting striker. This season, however, coach Renee Slegers has them playing together more regularly: Russo plays a more withdrawn role while Blackstenius leads the attack, with the two players often swapping positions fluidly to create new angles of attack.

“I think they’re quite different as players and that’s why they fit together so well,” Slegers said recently. “It is sometimes said that opposites attract. They are very different from each other, and this is precisely what makes them a complementary duo: each occupies the space left by the other and can thus express its specific qualities. This association creates a very beneficial collective dynamic, especially since both players are capable of playing in the number 9 position.”

Thanks to this device, Blackstenius is experiencing his most prolific season in the Arsenal jersey: eight goals and three assists in 15 Women’s Super League matches, including only six as a starter. Already a personal best since his arrival in England, to which are added three goals and two assists in other competitions.
