Pep Guardiola brushes aside Wayne Rooney’s ‘stupid’ criticism of Manchester City’s celebrations after ‘decisive’ win over Arsenal

The City manager said the intensity of the celebrations was a direct reflection of the pressure the team had felt before the match. He claimed a defeat would have ended their hopes of winning a title, which fully justified the deafening noise that sounded at the final whistle. Erling Haaland was even seen singing in front of a television camera during the post-match victory lap. Guardiola also praised the involvement of Citizens supporters, who unfurled a banner announcing: “Panic in the streets of London”.

“They knew that in the event of a defeat, it would be ‘bye bye’ to their title hopes. They won, we’re still here, so why not celebrate? Even while respecting the opponent and his supporters, you have to enjoy it as you wish,” he concluded.
