Having become a billionaire, Flamini confides for the first time about his very lucrative career change in biochemistry

Mathieu Flamini is experiencing a successful career change. The former OM and Arsenal player, retired since 2019, is the co-founder and CEO of GFBiochemicals, a green chemistry company. For the first time, he spoke about this new activity in an interview with Harvard Business Review.

Retired since 2019, Mathieu Flamini has become a businessman in the world of biochemistry. The former OM and Arsenal player is the head of a green chemistry company, GFBiochemicals. According to Forbes, the former international has a fortune estimated at £10 billion.

“During my career, I wondered how to provide solutions to global warming”

For the first time, Mathieu Flamini spoke about this new activity and this successful reconversion during an interview with Harvard Business Review: “Football was a childhood dream but the environment has always occupied an important place in my life. I had, very early on, an ecological conscience. Even during my football career, I wondered how to provide solutions to global warming, and the impact of human activity on the environment, but also on health.”

The former midfielder co-founded GFBiochemicals in 2013, notably thanks to his time in Italy: “When I joined AC Milan at 24, I was one of the youngest players. Many had other activities, which pushed me to wonder about entrepreneurship very early on. Then, there were meetings and opportunities which directed me towards the chemicals sector.”

Flamini says he sees some similarities between his career as a top athlete and the management of a company: “There are many parallels. You have to manage pressure, be determined but patient, not be afraid of the workload or the sacrifices…”

In recent weeks, the media Topskills Sports UK announced that Mathieu Flamini was open to buying shares in Arsenal, a club currently owned by Stan Kroenke, an American businessman. In the Gunners jersey, the Frenchman played 153 matches compared to only 24 with the Olympique de Marseille tunic.
