Coming out of the international break and four days before facing Arsenal in the Champions League, OL Lyonnes did not have to push their talent. By taking the break at the break, the Fenottes ensured a quiet victory (4-0) against Dijon.
Despite the celebration of women’s sport at GOLTC this Wednesday evening, the theme of the day was not really appropriate for the show between OL Lyonnes and Dijon. Not that the spectacle was not there for this First League match but the situation of the DFCO players was clearly not put aside by the Fenottes. After providing support to a formation perhaps on the verge of disappearing when the teams enter, Jonatan’s flock Giraldez observed a minute of applause in the center circle in the 20th minute, putting the match on pause.
An assist and a goal for Brand in one half
However, on the pitch, OL Lyonnes had already done the hard part with an opening goal in the 8th minute. In a reshuffled eleven with the first tenures of Charline Cutlery and Roman RafałskiChristmas Brand came to the fore. She pushed the ball perfectly into the Dijon goal with a beautiful serve Benyaiah. Among the rare internationals to start this Wednesday, the German then placed her ball on Katoto’s head for the break before the half-hour mark (2-0, 28th). But make no mistake. As Jonatan Giraldez’s starting line-up showed, the objective of this post-break outing was above all to prepare for the trip to Arsenal.
The young people had some playing time
By giving playing time to some like Wendie Renardwho played half-time, or Korbin Shrader and sparing others on the bench or in the stands. This confrontation against Dijon was not Lyon’s best performance, but the objective was elsewhere. With a third goal scored by Friction on a corner upon returning from the locker room then the 4th on a cross shot from I drink (57th), we knew the fate of this meeting for a long time. The only downside is Inès’ injury outings Benyaiah and Tabitha Helloboth returning from convalescence this Wednesday. Now it’s time for the confrontation that everyone is waiting for: Arsenal this Sunday in London then on May 2 in Décines.
