Kadidiatou Diani (OL) congratulated by Damaris after her goal against Arsenal
Historically, OL Lyonnes have always succeeded against Arsenal. But the Londoners have changed dimension, and it is difficult to identify a clear favorite today.
The Lyonnaises are preparing to cross paths withArsenal in the Champions League semi-final. Or rather cross paths again. Because this clash will be the remake of last year’s semi-final. Like this season, the first leg took place in London. Thanks to goals from Kadidiatou Diana and Melchie DumornayJoe’s players Montemurrothe coach at the time, had won (1-2) and were in an ideal position before the return match at Parc OL. But the English had slapped Wendie Renard’s teammates in front of their supporters (1-4), thus qualifying for the second final in their history.
They have already faced each other this season
Since then, they have become European champions, defeating in the final the best women’s team of the decade, the FC Barcelona (1-0). The Rhone team has changed coaches. Exit Australian Joe Montemurroplace for the architect of the Barcelona winning machine, Jonatan Giraldez.
OL Lyonnes and Arsenal have already crossed paths this season. During the first day of the Champions League, the Lyonnaises won at Meadow Park (1-2) thanks to a double from the inevitable Melchie Dumornay.
The Lyonnaises have never lost in London
The force of habit, perhaps, because the Fenottes are still undefeated against Arsenal in England. On the other hand, they had taken on water, again in Décines, in 2022, during the group phase. Victorious in the English capital (0-1), they lost very heavily in the first leg (1-5).
In total, the two teams have faced each other ten times in the Champions League, with Lyon winning seven times, one draw and two defeats. The eight-time European champions will have a lot to do on Sunday during the first leg (4:30 p.m.) but perhaps even more so, during the return match on Saturday May 2 at Parc OL (3 p.m.)*.
