The long-awaited duel between Tadej Pogacar and Paul Seixas took place on Sunday in Liège-Bastogne-Liège. The Slovenian and the Frenchman escaped 35 kilometers from the finish, leaving Remco Evenepoel behind.
Seixas stood up to Pogacar
The 19-year-old rider amazed everyone by standing up to the world champion, now a four-time winner of the event (like Alejandro Valverde), in the Redoute.
In Roche-aux-Faucons, Pogacar accelerated to release the cycling prodigy, wearing number 21, 500 meters from the summit. The Slovenian finished with an average of 44.4 km/h (historic record), 45 seconds ahead of Paul Seixas, for whom it was his first participation. Remco Evenepoel finished 1’42” behind Pogacar, in the sprint.
