The League Cup final pitted Arsenal and Manchester City at Wembley Stadium (London), a cup won for the last time in 2021 by the Cityzens, while the title has eluded the Gunners for 33 years.
The final of this Carabao Cup began with Leandro Trossard et Jérémy Doku at kickoff. And the first period did not offer a goal in a calm and closed first act. After the break, City finally found the break on the hour mark, following a powerful cross from Cherki.
Nico O’Reilly took advantage of an error from Kepa to open the score with a header and the same O’Reilly struck again four minutes later, once again deceiving a hesitant Gunners goalkeeper with his head.
33 years of drought and one more final lost for Arsenal
The Skyblues were jubilant while Arsenal no longer had a choice. But the end of the match gave nothing, Arsenal pushed without managing to worry a solid and confident Manchester City. Manchester City finally won the Carabao Cup, at the end of a match which was decided on the hour mark.
Nico O’Reilly’s double knocked out the Gunners and allowed City to win a trophy they have been waiting for since 2021, a title that has eluded the Gunners for 33 years.
