Arsenal defender Gabriel has withdrawn from the Brazil squad for March’s international friendlies with a knee injury.

Winger Leandro Trossard will also not report for international duty this month after it was confirmed he would not travel with the Belgium squad due to injury.

The Brazil Football Federation (CBF) announced in a statement Gabriel would miss his country’s friendlies against France and Croatia after experiencing pain in his right knee following Arsenal’s Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

The CBF said assessments had determined the centre-back was not fit to play in the fixtures, and no player would be called up as his replacement.

Belgium confirmed Trossard would miss the team’s trip to the United States for their friendlies against the U.S. and Mexico, but did not disclose the nature of his injury.

Gabriel and Trossard are the latest Arsenal players to withdraw from international duty for March’s window, with defender William Saliba pulling out of the France squad due to ankle pain and forward Eberechi Eze missing England duty due to the calf injury that kept him out of the Carabao Cup final.

Arsenal defender Ben White was called up to the England squad for the first time since the 2022 World Cup on Monday in place of the injured Jarell Quansah.

Gabriel, 28, played the full 90 minutes of Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday. He has featured 38 times across all competitions this season despite having one month out with a hamstring injury.

Trossard, 31, started Sunday’s final before being replaced by Gabriel Martinelli on 82 minutes. He had missed the win at Everton the previous week after being forced off with injury against Mansfield Town in the FA Cup on March 7.

Following March’s international break, Arsenal return to action against Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals on April 4.
