Lee Carsley, England Under-21 manager and former interim manager of the senior team, shares Tuchel’s enthusiasm but believes there is no urgency to rush the midfielder’s progress. Carsley, who followed the player’s development throughout his time in the youth teams, stressed that time was on the side of the teenager, who must balance football and his studies.
“I think Max has a fantastic future at international level,” Carsley told reporters. “It’s important not to rush things. He has one thing going for him: time. He will play for the under-19s, a really important step. Hopefully they qualify for the Euros and he can eventually play in the Under-20 World Cup. »
He added: “I saw him play a lot at the under-17 level, as I saw a lot of other players. He’s a very talented player, he’ll definitely get his chance at one point or another. »
