Holder of a Master’s degree in sports journalism, I fell in love with tennis since childhood and have always loved reading the great stories of this sport. Today, I want to tell them about them, take full advantage of my passion and be as close as possible to the aces of the circuit.

Former Burkinabe player, Habib Bamogo started his professional career in Montpellier in 2001 at just 19 years old. The former striker, now 43 years old, put away his crampons in 2015 and returned in detail to his career in 2024. Having worked for OM, he talks about how his career could have taken a very different trajectory.

Former Burkina Faso international, Habib Bamogo still played with the Blues for the Espoirs and that would have allowed him to have a very different career. After his professional debut in Montpellier, he signed withABOUT in 2004 where he remained until 2007, not without going through a tumultuous path. In 2024, he returned for The Team on this transfer that could have taken place.

“I couldn’t refuse”

For years, The Team regularly calls on former players to talk about their careers and the greatest memories associated with it. One of the questions that arises almost every time is that of the transfer which could have been carried out but which failed. Habib Bamogo then says he signed at theABOUT despite notable advances from a fairly prestigious English club. “The transfer that could have happened? Before going to OM, I could have signed for Arsenal. I was in Espoirs with (Jérémie) Aliadière, who told me all the time that Gilles Grimandi (then Gunners recruiter) had 150 tapes of me and that he watched them all the time. But I don’t know exactly what happened between the clubs, then Marseille showed up. I couldn’t refuse.” he explains in 2024.

A difficult adventure at OM

By opting for Marseille, one of the biggest clubs in France, Habib Bamogo didn’t experience only beautiful things there. During the interview, he also said that his passage throughABOUT had been quite eventful since he spent a season on loan at Nantes in 2005-2006 and another half in Celta Vigo before leaving the club in 2007 to join Nice.
