A few weeks after their Olympic title, Frenchmen Guillaume Cizeron and Laurence Fournier Beaudry dominated the rhythm dance at the World Figure Skating Championships and won a world gold medal.
The French captivated the public and the judges with a refined and poetic performance, which earned them 138.07 points, a stone’s throw from the world record.
Combined from their two programs, they total 230.81 points and are ahead of Canadians Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier, while Americans Emilea Zingas and Vadym Kolesnik won the bronze medal.
To the ethereal soundtrack of the film “The Whale”, which allows them to express a host of feelings, Cizeron and Fournier Beaudry skated masterfully, plunging the O2 Arena in Prague into an impressive silence.
Associated for just over a year, they are crowning their first season together with the planetary coronation, after having already won the European title in January and especially the Olympic Grail last month.
Cizeron, 31 years old and also Olympic champion in 2022, won the sixth world title of his career after the five won with his former partner Gabriella Papadakis.
For Laurence Fournier Beaudry, this is a first world medal at 33 years old.
On Friday, the French beat their season record with 92.74 points thanks to their punchy program inspired by Madonna’s famous hit “Vogue”.
