On the pitch, Martinelli is not in the best phase of his career either. In the Premier League this season, he has only 1 goal and 3 assists in 25 appearances, a performance far from his peak in recent seasons. All competitions combined, his figures remain more flattering (11 goals and 5 assists), proof that he retains real potential, but without alone justifying an XXL investment for a club like Marseille.
Internally, OM is already working on a more rational transfer window, with the need to sell; the Mason Greenwood case is regularly cited, to finance arrivals and find a healthier salary structure. In this context, imagining the new Marseille management betting everything on a player worth around €40 million with a salary greater than €10 million per season seems totally disconnected from the priorities of the moment, while other positions remain to be reinforced in depth. At this stage, Martinelli at OM looks more like a nice transfer window fiction than a real priority track for the summer.
