“These are the two best teams”, Emmanuel Petit salivates before PSG-Bayern, “a final before its time”

Emmanuel Petit, former Arsenal and French team player, is salivating before the semi-final of the Champions League between PSG and Bayern Munich, the first leg of which will be played at the Parc des Princes on April 28.

Bayern Munich trembled against Real Madrid (4-3) but reached the semi-finals of the Champions League where they will play a highly anticipated match against PSG. For many, including Emmanuel Petit, the clash will pit the two best current teams in the competition.

“Collectively, Bayern and PSG are superior to Arsenal”

“It’s the final before its time,” said the 1998 world champion in After Foot on Wednesday. “They are the two best teams even if Arsenal finished first in the league phase. But we remember Liverpool last year (who also finished first) before PSG (defeat in the 8th for the Reds) and it was not the same thing in the final phase.”

According to the former Monaco, Arsenal and FC Barcelona midfielder, PSG and Bayern are currently playing the best football. And this will make the winner of this duel the big favorite for the title in the final, according to him. “I remain firmly convinced that it is the foundation of the game that allows teams to win the best titles and the best competitions,” he continued. “Even though Arsenal finished first in the standings, in terms of play there is no match (with PSG and Bayern). Arsenal are a boring team to play against. They don’t take many goals but they are in a tough situation lately and are playing their season this week with the game at City. Collectively, I think Bayern and PSG are superior to Arsenal.”

The Gunners have indeed signed a flawless record in the League phase with eight victories in as many matches, including one against Bayern Munich (3-1) on November 26. It was also Munich’s only setback in the competition. But Mikel Arteta’s men are currently going through a more sluggish period with a defeat in the League Cup final, an elimination in the FA Cup and a recent setback against Bournemouth (1-2) in the Premier League which weakens their first place in the league. The Londoners travel to Manchester City (2nd at 6 points but with a game in hand) on Sunday (5:30 p.m.) for a decisive shock in the title race.

On Wednesday, Arsenal validated their qualification for the semi-finals of the Champions League after a sad draw against Sporting Portugal (0-0), eight days after a short success in Lisbon (0-1).
