The classification of the Italian Monument

On Saturday, the 117th edition of Milan-Sanremo was eventful, with numerous falls and a breathtaking finale. By falling 31 kilometers from the finish, Tadej Pogacar (UAE) compromised his chances of victory but he quickly closed his gap on the peloton. 24 kilometers from the finish, he made a fatal attack and only Mathieu Van der Poel (Alpecin-Premier Tech) and Tom Pidcock (Pinarello) were able to take his wheel in the Cipressa. The three men had a lead of up to 34 seconds. As the peloton was about to come back on them, 8 kilometers from the finish, the Slovenian launched a new offensive and Mathieu Van der Poel was unable to keep up with his pace.

On the other hand, the Briton made life difficult for the world champion in the Poggio, until the finish, where Pogacar won by half a wheel. At the end of the 298 kilometers, the Slovenian won his 11th Monument and his first Primavera, with his entire left side in blood and his outfit torn. The recent winner of Milan-Turin is 2nd, while Wout Van Aert completes the podium despite also falling before the Cipressa.

Pogacar increases his legend

We had to wait until the last kilometers to witness the battle between two of the favorites. We are waiting for Mathieu Van der Poel, winner last year, but it is the Briton Tom Pidcock who stood out to stand up to the Slovenian monster.
