The response was not long in coming. The first division volleyball club of Saint-Dié, in the Vosges, decided on Friday to suspend as a precautionary measure the coach of the women’s team, the day after accusations made by its players who explained that they had been victims of sexist and sexual insults. In a press release published Thursday by the ProSmash union of professional players, the Saint-Dié players denounced the comments allegedly made by their coach Emmanuel Dumortier.
They accuse him of having uttered sexist and sexual insults on several occasions, this season and before, alleged facts which they also reported last week on Signal Sports, the dedicated platform of the Ministry of Sports. “There are still some coaches who continue to use vexatious, sexist and dangerous methods. The Saint-Dié coach is part of this caste that we are fighting,” they wrote.
The club decided on Friday to suspend Emmanuel Dumortier as a precautionary measure, ensuring in a press release published on the networks that “the words of the players (were) heard and (must) be fully considered”. The Saint-Dié club clarified that this suspension “in no way constitutes recognition of established facts, but aims to guarantee the proper conduct of investigations, with respect for all parties”.
