Should we be worried about Novak Djokovic, still out of Madrid due to a shoulder injury?

He left the Philippe-Chatrier court to an ovation last year. Beaten in the semi-final of Roland-Garros by Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, hand on his heart, stopped for a few seconds on the court to greet the Parisian public. One last time? A few seconds after this magnificent clash, the Serb raised the possibility that this match against the Italian had been his last Porte d’Auteuil.

“It could be the last match of my career here, that’s why there were emotions at the end,” the Serb admitted at a press conference. I don’t know what state I’ll be in a year from now to play. » As if he had guessed what the future would hold for him, Novak Djokovic has experienced some health problems in recent weeks which are preventing him from competing in tournaments.

Djokovic continues his convalescence

Hit in the right shoulder, Novak Djokovic (soon to be 39 years old) has not played since his elimination in the round of 16 of the Masters 1000 at Indian Wells a month ago, successively withdrawing from Miami and Monte-Carlo, two tournaments of the same category. He will also not be present at the Masters 1000 in Madrid, which begins next week, one month before Roland-Garros.

“Madrid, unfortunately I will not be able to participate this year. I am continuing my convalescence with the aim of returning soon,” wrote the player with 24 Grand Slam titles on his Instagram account. His return is now hoped for another Masters 1000, that of Rome, just two weeks before the French Open.

The former world number one currently occupies 4th place in the ATP rankings. He had few points to defend in Madrid since he was eliminated last year as soon as he entered the fray in the second round.
