Four new Premier League refereeing errors identified, affecting Chelsea and Arsenal games

Another error noted on the final day of the championship involved Leeds United’s Gabriel Gudmundsson, who was wrongly shown a second yellow card in a match against Crystal Palace. Under current Premier League rules, VAR cannot intervene in second yellow card situations, which deprived Leeds of any recourse during the match. However, this protocol should change next season to ensure that such errors, which could disrupt the course of a match, can be corrected.

An uncalled penalty was also flagged in Brentford’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, in which Kevin Schade was held back by Wolves’ Andre. As the five-person independent committee continues to assess every incident on every day of the championship, pressure remains high on the PGMOL to translate improved review times into greater accuracy, with on-field reliability remaining stable at around 86% since the start of the previous season.
