The municipal elections in Paris have, as expected, changed the situation regarding the sale of the Parc des Princes. While Anne Hidalgo had vetoed it several times, pushing PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi to think about building a new stadium in Massy (Essonne) or Poissy (Yvelines), the new mayor, Emmanuel Grégoire, declared Monday that everything remained open. Simply, he wants a decision to be made “by the end of summer at the latest”.
Soon an exceptional Paris Council
Rather personally in favor of a supervised sale of the Parc des Princes to the Parisian club, the councilor, interviewed on France Info, promised to “very quickly re-engage in discussions”, through an “exceptional Paris Council” which will take place in mid-April.
“On the timetable, we agreed, with the shareholder of PSG, that we wanted to close the discussions at the end of the summer at the latest, because we need to know how to set ambitious timetables. And so, I hope to be able to top with them, as they say, by the summer,” he added.
In detail, Emmanuel Grégoire wishes to propose “two options” to the Paris Council (which has the final choice) to resolve the situation: a long-term lease or a sale but which would be strictly supervised, the City retaining for example a “priority right of redemption” in addition to requiring heritage protection of the building.
“We have an emotional attachment to our club which is immense and we want it to stay in Paris and therefore we want to create the conditions for it to stay,” added the new mayor who spoke after his victory with Nasser al-Khelaïfi.

If there were to be a sale, the mayor wishes to allocate the entire amount to “the creation of new sports facilities and the maintenance of sports facilities and the creation of green spaces”. For the moment, PSG has a long lease at the Park until 2044.
