Young Spanish cycling hopeful Jaume Guardeno was seriously injured in a training accident on Tuesday and remains in intensive care, his team announced on Thursday.
The 23-year-old rider “was rushed by helicopter to the Tauli hospital in Sabadell, where he is still hospitalized in intensive care with serious injuries,” writes his team, Caja Rural-RGA, which will be invited to the Tour de France next summer.
According to the Spanish press, Guardeno, who had just participated in the Tour of Catalonia, violently hit a vehicle after hitting a stone which caused it to deviate from its trajectory and suffered head trauma.
His team conveyed “all its support” to the runner and his loved ones, wishing him to recover from his injuries as quickly as possible.
