On this Easter Monday, the Tour of the Basque Country 2026 started with a time trial around Bilbao.
This first act made us want to see more, with the victory of Frenchman Paul Seixas (DCT) in the time trial, author of an impressive time. This is his first success in the WorldTour. He is ahead of his compatriot Kévin Vauquelin (IGD), 2nd with 23 seconds behind, and Felix Großschartner (UAD), 3rd at 27 seconds. Paul Seixas continues after his stage victory at the Tour d’Algarve, a success at the Faun-Ardèche Classic and his 2nd place at the Strade Bianche.

The runners had to climb Santo Domingo (2.4 km at 7.3%) and finish on a climb at 19%, which obviously already widened the gaps in the general classification after 13.9 km.
For more than an hour, Paul Seixas sat in the best time chair, seeing the names of the runners go by, without being able to beat him. The favorites Primoz Roglic (28″), Florian Lipowitz (33″), Isaac Del Toro (50″) and Juan Ayuso (1′16″) are already behind.
