PSG, Real Madrid, Barça, Bayern… The quarter-final table after the first legs

After Bayern Munich and Arsenal on Tuesday, Paris Saint-Germain and Atlético de Madrid emerged victorious this Wednesday in their quarter-final first leg of the Champions League against Liverpool and FC Barcelona. These four clubs have taken a good option for the last four. But nothing is done yet before the return matches next week.

This is the end of the first act. This Wednesday, the last two quarter-final first legs of the Champions League delivered their verdict. After Bayern Munich’s domination at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid (1-2) and Arsenal’s narrow victory at Sporting on Tuesday (0-1), it was Paris Saint-Germain and Atlético de Madrid who respectively brought down Liverpool (2-0) and FC Barcelona (0-2).

As in the round of 16 last season, the Parisians faced the Reds at the Parc des Princes. If the content had the air of 2024-2025, the result this time turned in favor of Luis Enrique’s men before the complicated trip to Anfield next Tuesday. Put into orbit by a gem from Désiré Doué at the start of the match, the European champions doubled the lead through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

In the other evening match, Barça dominated the entire first period until a fatal through ball just before the break. Faulty on Giuliano Simeone, Pau Cubarsi was sent off, before Julian Alvarez scored from the ensuing free kick. In the second half, Alexander Sorloth allowed the Colchonores to return from Catalonia with a nice advantage before the return.
