The Ethiopian Shure Demise shattered the previous Paris marathon record by more than a minute by winning on Sunday in 2h18:33 ahead of her compatriot Misgane Alemayehu (2h19:06) and the Kenyan Magdalyne Masai (2h19:18).
Demise thus achieves the sixth world performance of the year and finishes first of the 20,800 women who started this marathon, another record for the Parisian race.
The first French finish 8th
Mekdes Woldu finished first Frenchwoman in 8th place in 2h26:25, three minutes from her French record. “We were encouraged throughout, it was a great race. With the crowd, it reminded me of the Olympics,” explained the Frenchwoman.
Throughout the morning and afternoon, more than 60,000 runners are expected at the finish line, located on Avenue Foch, near the Arc de Triomphe.
