Manchester City took full advantage of the defeat of Arsenal, their title rival, against AFC Bournemouth (1-2). Pep Guardiola’s team made the difference against Chelsea in a very effective second half: 0-3. Leader Arsenal is still six points ahead of City, but the Citizens have a game in hand and will host the Gunners next weekend. Chelsea, for their part, suffered a third consecutive defeat in the Premier League and stagnated in sixth place.
The first half, which was slow, did not offer any real chances: neither team wanted to take any risks, with the London defense remaining very low.
The Citizens struggled to create clear chances, even if Rayan Cherki, among others, could have better exploited his chance. From entering the area, he shot directly into Robert Sánchez’s gloves.
City then started the second half very well, although Erling Braut Haaland came up against a superb block from Jorrel Hato and Rayan Cherki saw his shot deflected at the last moment. The visitors had no time to regret these opportunities.
The next first opportunity was the good one: Cherki sent a perfect cross to the head of Nico O’Reilly, who opened the scoring with a powerful header while Sánchez remained helpless: 0-1.
Five minutes later, the Frenchman served an assist to Marc Guéhi, who finished like a confirmed center forward in the opposite corner (0-2).
In this high-level second half, Jérémy Doku then took advantage of an error from Moisés Caicedo to offer himself a face-to-face which he concluded with composure: 0-3.
The match was then over; All that remained was to know the final size of the score. Both teams created a few more chances, but the 0-3 remained unchanged.
Tijjani Reijnders and Nathan Aké did not play a single minute in the City jersey. Hato, author of a solid performance in the center of defense, played the entire match.
