Israel-Lebanon talks, a sacred May 1 and PSG favorite against Liverpool

Did you miss the news this morning? We’ve put together a summary to help you see things more clearly and shine at the coffee machine.

Israel and Lebanon to discuss unlikely peace in Washington

Since the failure of negotiations between the United States and Iran over the weekend in Pakistan, the ceasefire has been extremely precarious between the belligerents in the Middle East. De-escalation is moving away with a major standoff between Donald Trump and the Islamic Republic on the Strait of Hormuz. The only note of hope: this Tuesday, Lebanese and Israeli representatives are meeting in Washington, under the mediation of the head of American diplomacy Marco Rubio, for direct preliminary peace talks. But the prospects of an agreement seem slim as the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah continues to persist.

The government refuses to legislate on work on May 1st

Nothing will change for May 1st. At least this year. The government of Sébastien Lecornu postponed Monday evening sine die the law allowing the expansion of work on that day in France but promised to return to the subject before May 2027. May 1 remains, as it stands, the “only public holiday, non-working and paid”, and this principle “must continue”.

Against Liverpool, PSG aims for the last four of the Champions League

PSG has the best cards in hand this Tuesday to continue its journey in the Champions League. With a frustrating advantage in the first leg (2-0), Paris travels to Anfield this evening to face Liverpool from 9 p.m. in the quarter-final. But even if the capital club no longer resembles the crumbly PSG of before the Luis Enrique era, the Parisians know the club’s history too well to take this return match lightly.
