On Monday, the Tour of the Alps started with a stage with a hilly profile, with 1,800 meters of altitude difference, around Innsbruck, in Austria. The victory was decided in the last meters, in a massive sprint which smiled on Tommaso Dati (UKYO), ahead of the Briton Tom Pidcock (Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) and the German Florian Stork (Tudor Pro Cycling). The Italian wins his second victory, after the first of his career a few weeks ago. Pidcock is back after his heavy fall at the Tour of Catalonia, which forced him to retire.
The Dutchman Thymen Arensman (Ineos Grenadiers) believed in victory after a solo breakaway 3 kilometers from the finish but he was caught by the peloton in the last 200 meters. He finally finished 18th. The first Frenchman Mathys Rondel (Tudor Pro Cycling) is 40th.
