Kanye West is persona non grata in Basel, Switzerland. The FC Basel football club announced on Monday that it was refusing to host a concert by the rapper at St. Jakob-Park. The club specifies that it has “received a request” to organize this event and indicates that it has studied it before making a final decision.
In its communication, FC Basel emphasizes that after “a thorough examination”, it has chosen not to pursue the project. The club justifies this refusal by asserting that it could not “offer a platform to the artist concerned” due to an incompatibility with its values. No other explanation was provided, although a date of June 26 had been mentioned without official confirmation.
Many concerts already canceled
This decision comes against a backdrop of persistent tensions around the American artist. Several concerts have recently been canceled or postponed in Europe, notably in France, the United Kingdom and Poland. In Marseille, a performance scheduled for June 11 was postponed in the face of opposition from local and national authorities.
