It’s officially over between Liverpool and their legend Mohamed Salah

Liverpool will have to say goodbye to their “pharaoh”. A living legend of the Premier League club since 2017, Mohamed Salah will bid farewell to Anfield and his supporters, who adored him through swaying dribbles and amassed titles.

“Mohamed Salah will end his illustrious career with Liverpool FC at the end of the 2025-2026 season,” the English club announced on Tuesday evening.

Salah will “never walk alone”

The 33-year-old Egyptian confirmed this in a video posted on his social networks, where he poses in front of the multiple trophies collected with the English club. “Leaving is never easy. I will always be one of you and this club will always be a home to me and my family. Thanks for everything. Thanks to all of you, I will never walk alone,” he said, using the words of the club’s iconic song, You’ll Never Walk Alone.

The right winger has carved out a place for himself among Liverpool legends since his arrival from AS Roma. In the red jersey, the No.11 scored 255 goals in 435 appearances, which makes him the third top scorer in the club’s history. Collectively, he has won the English championship twice and a Champions League, among a slew of other trophies, from the Club World Cup to the European Super Cup, including national cups.

Decisive for the Premier League title

But the statistics and the prize list only tell part of the story linking “Mo” Salah to the people of Liverpool, who established him as an untouchable “pharaoh”, even when his performances declined. From the stands of Anfield the song dedicated to him is regularly heard, where it is about a king who walks his right corridor in majesty: “Mo Salah, Mo Salah, Mo Salah, Running down the wing… Salah, la, la, la, laaaaaa… the Egyptian King”.

Above all, his 29 goals and 18 assists helped Liverpool and new coach Arne Slot take the Premier League throne last year. He himself was voted best player of the season, obviously. In April, the Mersey club logically extended its star striker until 2027 according to the specialist press.

But the tide turned during a much less flamboyant 2025-2026 season, for the striker and his team, to the point that a departure at the end of the year did not seem far-fetched. Last December, he criticized a situation that was “not acceptable, not fair” after a third match in a row started on the substitutes’ bench. This outing caused him to be left out of the group for a match. After the African Cup of Nations, he found a starting place as if nothing had happened, without his bond being damaged with the supporters. Before leaving, he will try to bring them two new trophies: the FA Cup and the Champions League.
