We left them at Milan-Cortina with devastated faces, with indescribable disappointment. A month after the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games, the American Ilia Malinin and the French Adam Siao Him Fa, who had collapsed during the free program of the Olympics while they were in a very good place to finish on the podium, returned to the ice during the world figure skating championships.
In Prague (Czech Republic), the two skaters performed an exceptional short program, notably Ilia Malinin, who beat his personal best with 111.29 (three points more than his previous best mark). On The Lost Crownfrom 2Wei, Malinin once again splashed the ice rink with his talent, notably with a quadruple flip, a back flip or the quadruple lutz and triple toe loop sequence. Great art which allowed him to take first place in this competition.
“We are all humans”
“I thought about everything that had happened this year, and I told myself that having a lot of pressure could hurt, but I wanted to have fun, to put in a good performance and it worked quite well,” reacted Ilia Malinin on Eurosport. It’s important for all of us to remember that we are all humans. It happens to fail. You have to trust everything you have accomplished. »
Just behind the best skater in the world, is our Frenchman Adam Siao Him Fa. He too had experienced a very complicated free program at the Olympics, with several falls, and he managed to get rid of his disappointment by doing a high-flying short program, coming very close to his record (101.85 against 102.45).
If first place seems unattainable, the podium is on track for the man who finished in fourth place at the Worlds last year. To do this, we will have to avoid falling back into the same failings as in Italy. Other French people in the running, Kevin Aymoz is 11th after the short program. François Pitot is 21.
