Former Arsenal and Manchester City star faces astronomical €5m tax bill in tax dispute after his properties have been seized and his bank accounts frozen

At the heart of the dispute is Nasri’s claim that he is a tax resident in Dubai. While the United Arab Emirates has become a popular destination for renowned expatriates, French authorities are contesting this status. Their argument is based on the conviction that the “center of vital interests” of the former Manchester City star remains in France. To support this thesis, they highlighted the fact that he owns three real estate properties in France as well as travel data obtained from airlines.

Records indicate that between 2021 and 2023, Nasri spent between 126 and 208 days per year in France, significantly more than the 42 to 124 days he spent in the United Arab Emirates. In an unusual piece of evidence, authorities even tracked his meal delivery habits, noting that in 2022 he had 212 meals delivered in Paris via Deliveroo. These factors led the court to support the administration’s view that it maintains an enduring presence in its home country.
